In a feeder for bulk materials of the type of a star wheel feeder, an internally approximately cylindrical housing with an upper inlet nozzle and a lower outlet nozzle is provided. A star wheel provided with pockets is mounted in the housing so as to be rotatable. Sealing elements extend between the pockets to the interior wall in order to separate the pockets from one another. In order to make the separation as complete as possible and to permit only a slight leakage of air from the feeder to a filter connected thereto, the star wheel is designed drum-shaped with at least one lateral surface extending to the interior wall of the housing. At least one pocket insert is inserted in the lateral surface, the opening of which insert has a smaller cross-section than the lateral surface. The lateral surface thus forms a large surface-area sealing element.
