Arrangement for cutting rock, including coal, in underground mining operations, with a rotating pick carrier in the form of a shearing drum or a cutting head, a plurality of picks arranged on the pick carrier by means of pick adaptors and having a cutting edge or a cutting tip, and a device for supplying a spark-suppression agent. On a curved path predetermined by the rotation of the pick carrier, the picks move with a cutting action along the rock to be won. A plate-shaped spark arrester is arranged between the cutting edge or cutting tip of the picks and the pick carrier. The spark arrester extends with its plate face essentially transversely to the revolving path of the allocated pick.
