The passive safety belt unit for vehicles has the belt connected to a runner (10) which slides along a guide rail (12) by means of an operating cable (36) between a fitting position and a position allowing acccess to the seat. The runner (10) consists of a guide piece (14) which projects up into a vertical guide slot (12a) and has two eyelets (30) which run in a cylindrical guide slot (12b) and connect the runner (10) to the operating cable (36). Hinged to the guide piece (14) is a connector (18) whose hinge is parallel to the rail (12). The belt holder (22) swings on an axis (20) in the connector (18). ADVANTAGES - Gives the runner unit movement for the belt holder without causing damage to the guide rail.
