PURPOSE:To make cleaning suitable for the surface of an image carrier possible by constituting a device with a cleaning member and a holding member which holds the cleaning member and adhering the face, which faces the face brought into contact with the image carrier, of the cleaning member and the holding member to each other. CONSTITUTION:A cleaning device C is constituted with an elastic cleaning blade 11, a sheet-shaped guide member 12 which leads materials such as a remaining developer or the like eliminated by the blade into a vessel 16, and a scraping-in member 17 which leads the eliminated developer to the depth of the vessel 16. A force F1 is applied to the blade when the blade 11 is displaced by a certain quantity, and a force F2 is applied by the surface friction of the image carrier due to the rotative motion of the image carrier, and a resultant force of these forces is F3. The contacting angle is increased from theta' to theta'' according as a coefficient of friction is higher, and a cleaning pressure is increased slightly, and thus, a good cleaning efficiency is obtained in accordance with the sticking force of unnecessary sticking materials. |
