In a motor-vehicle window lifter, having a driver (16) carrying a window pane and guided displaceably along a guide rail (14), and having an adjusting drive engaging on the driver, it is proposed to attach to the driver (16) a braking device consisting of a pivotable brake block (60) which engages by means of a slot (76) round one leg (28) of the guide rail (14) and which, when pivoted slightly into its blocking position (60'), blocks the driver (16) on the guide rail (14) in a self-locking manner. The blocking can be cancelled again by means of a resetting part (46) fastened directly to the pull rope (36) and displaceable relative to the driver (16).
