The cutting element (56) has a central part with a cross-section in the shape of a concave, seven-sided polygon. The two flanks (62, 63) of this central part are pressed onto the faces (12, 13) of a rib (11) by a bearing element (50) clamped by means of a screw (3) on the tool body (48). The two parts with a quadrilateral cross-section, which are bounded by the surfaces (58, 60, 62) on the one hand and (63, 61, 59) on the other hand, extend one in one direction and the other in the other direction beyond the limits of the central zone of the element so as to constitute projecting portions of the cutting element capable of performing hobbing or cutting operations.
