PURPOSE:To prevent the occurrence of a firing trouble occasioned by a produced volatile content, by a method wherein gas for preventing the occurrence of fire is fed to a crusher and a line, through which the crusher and a burner are inter- connected, during stoppage of operation of the crusher. CONSTITUTION:When a crusher is brought to a stop, exhaust gas G is cooled by an air preheater by means of the air A, and the cooled exhaust gas is introduced from an exhaust gas line 28 to an air feed main pipe 20, with a damper 35 of the air feed main pipe 20 closed and a damper 36 of a bypass line 33 opened, cooled exhaust gas is fed through the bypass line 33 to a crusher 1. The cooled exhaust gas fed to the crusher 1 cools the inside of a device to reduce production of a volatile content from residual coal and to fill the inside of the device therewith. This enables prevention of the occurrence of firing trouble occasioned by a volatile content produced during stoppage of operation of a coal crusher.
