A masonry wall is constructed essentially from two types of prefabricated structural elements, that is to say cross-sectionally square, straight or curved profile elements (1) and connecting elements (2). The latter are provided at the top and bottom with cutouts (2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, 2e, 2f). In each case at least two connecting elements (2) are arranged between two pairs of profile elements (1) arranged one above the other. In this arrangement, the profile elements (1) and connecting elements (2) rest, where cutouts (2a, 2c, 2d, 2f) of the latter are located, one upon the other. The cutouts are such that a horizontal force F, directed transversely to the profile elements, can be transferred from the respectively upper structural elements to the structural elements located directly beneath. The cutouts (2a, 2b, 2c) located on the upper sides of the connecting elements (2) are offset with respect to the cutouts (2d, 2e, 2f) located on the lower side, with the result that the retaining masonry wall slopes even if the connecting elements (2) are in an essentially horizontal arrangement. <IMAGE>
