PURPOSE:To obtain a high performance fuel cell by providing electrolytephilic performance and ion conduction to an anode while sufficient water repellent performance to a cathode. CONSTITUTION:When binding fine powder catalyst through binder mainly composed of macromolecular compound having positive ion exchange capability, the surface of catalyst layer is provided with hydrophilic performance and electrolytephilic performance to increase permeability of electrolyte into the interior of electrode. Carbon dioxide produced through reaction with methanole is prevented from adhesion to the surface of electrode while increase of hydrogen ion conductivity of the electrode body will cause increase of anode characteristic. Porous basic member such as carbon paper impregnated with tetra-fluoro ethylene (PTFE) and thermally processed under the temperature of 370-430 deg.C is employed for the cathode 2. Said cathode has high water repellent performance and high strength to improve cell performance considerably. |
