PURPOSE:To provide a polyarylene sulfide resin compsn. having excellent rigidity, resistance to impact and heat, etc. and suitable for use in the production of automotive parts, etc., by blending carbon fiber and a specified olefin copolymer with a polyarylene sulfide. CONSTITUTION:5-70wt% carbon fiber (A) and 0.5-50wt% olefin copolymer (B) composed of an alpha-olefin, such as ethylene, and an alpha,beta-unsaturated acid glycidyl ester, such as glycidyl acrylate, are mixed with 20-94.5wt% polyarylene sulfide (C), such as polyphenylene sulfide, to obtain the desired polyarylene sulfide resin compsn. Polyphenylene sulfide which is a typical example of component C can be obtd. by reacting p-chlorobenzene with sodium sulfide in N-methylpyrrolidone as solvent with heating under pressure.
