OIL-ABSORBING MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To provide a low-cost oil-absorbing material having a high oil absorbing capacity, consisting of silicone-treated shirasu balloon obtained by simple treatment. CONSTITUTION:The oil-absorbing material consists of silicone-treated shirasu balloon. The silicone treatment which imparts sufficient oil absorbing property is performed by dipping the balloon in a 0.01-0.1% aqueous solution of silicone, vaporizing the solvent before or after removal of the shirasu balloon from the bath for adsorption of 0.05pts.wt. silicone by 100pts.wt. shirasu balloon. Thus high-efficiency oil absorbing material is obtained from low-cost raw materials in a simple process.
