PURPOSE:To produce a surface-treated material which has excellent dispersibility and is highly affinitive with org. vehicles, by treating the surface of calcium carbonate with resin acid or an insoluble salt thereof which has been emulsified in water. CONSTITUTION:Resin acid or an insoluble salt thereof is emulsified in water by using an emulsifier to make it water-soluble, and then adsorbed and bonded onto the surface of calcium carbonate (precipitated calcium carbonate having an average particle size of 0.01-1.0mu obtd. by reacting CO2 with calcium hydroxide), whereby surface-treated calcium carbonate having excellent affinity with org. vehicles can be obtd. Calcium carbonate treated as described above little suffers secondary agglomeration among particles even when dehydrated and dried, so that it exhibits excellent dispersibility when blended with paints, printing ink, etc.
