PURPOSE:To produce an azo pigment in a resource saving and energy saving manner, by crushing a water-wetted arom. amine, diazotizing, said amine and coupling the resulting diazo component with a coupling component. CONSTITUTION:An arom. amine of formula I or II (wherein X, Y are each H, halogen, a 1-4C alkyl, OH, nitro, methoxy, ethoxy, formamide, acetamide; Z is carboxyl, sulfone; l, m, n are each 1, 2) is wetted with water, crushed with a crusher and diazotized. The resulting diazo component is coupled with a coupling component to produce an azo pigment. No alkalis for dissolving the arom. amine are required, and hence no extra acid for neutralizing the alkali is necessary. Furthermore, no heat for dissolution is necessary and hence the azo pigment can be produced in a resource saving and energy saving manner.
