PURPOSE:To obtain a smooth thin film with superior bonding strength by specifying conditions during calcination and the following cooling when a liq. dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene resin coated on the surface of a metal is calcined under reduced pressure. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a metal is derusted and degreased, and after roughening the degreased surface as required, a liq. dispersion of polytetrafluoroethylene resin is coated or electrodeposited on the surface. The metal is put in a vacuum furnace, and the furnace is evacuated. When it is evacuated to 10<-3> Torr degree of vacuum, heating is started. The internal temp. of the furnace is kept at 380-420 deg.C for a prescribed time to carry out calcination, and the heating is stopped. Said degree of vacuum is maintained until the internal temp. of the furnace lowers by 40-100 deg.C from the calcining temp. The evacuation is then stopped, air is introduced, and the calcined film is rapidly cooled under ordinary pressure.
