PURPOSE:An agent for providing absorption characteristics, increasing absorption characteristics of active substance of drug, having high safety even by long- term administration, containing a partially novel phenylalanine derivative or its salt as an active ingredient. CONSTITUTION:The titled agent containing at least one of a phenylalanine derivative shown by the formula (R<1> is H, halogen, nitro, etc.; X is CO, or SO2; Y is direct bond, lower alkylene, substituted or unsubstituted vinylene, etc.; R<2> is substituted or unsubstituted phenyl, naphthyl, etc.) and its nontoxic salt as an active ingredient. When the derivative and an active substance of drug (e.g., insulin) are administered, interaction of noncovalent bond type is produced between the adjunct and the active substance of drug, and the substance is provided with absorption characteristics. An amount of the agent for providing absorption characteristics used is 0.1-2,000mg based on 25 unit insulin. A compound wherein X is CO in the formula is a novel substance.
