AMORPHOUS VANADIUM-TITANIUM COMPOUND MATERIAL AND ITS PREPARATION

PURPOSE:To prepare a novel and useful amorphous V-Ti compound material having a specific composition, by melting a mixture of V2O5 and TiO2 with heat, and quenching the molten mixture at an extremely high rate of cooling. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of V2O5 and TiO2 having a specific composition is charged into a tube 7 having a nozzle 11 for ejecting molten liquid. The mixture is melted by heating at a temperature above the melting point of the mixture with dielectric heating coils 5, 5. The molten liquid is ejected through the opening of the nozzle 11 to the surface of the roll 13 rotating at a high rate of rotation with the constant pressure of gas sent from the air cylinder 21, and quenched on the surface of the roll 13. The objective amorphous V-Ti compound material having a composition of (V2O5)1-x.(TiO2)x (0.70>=X>0) can be prepared by this process.
