PURPOSE:To prepare glass foam having high dimensional accuracy and low bulk density, by hearing a raw material mixture consisting of glass powder, a blowing agent and a void-forming substance in a mold at <= the softening point of the glass powder to form voids, heating it at >= the softening point. CONSTITUTION:A raw material mixture consisting of glass powder, a blowing agent, and a void-forming substance is packed into a mold. The raw material mixture is primarily heated at >= a temperature to decompose or oxidize the avoid-forming substance in the mold and <= the softening point of the glass powder, so that the void-forming substance is decomposed or oxidized and removed, to form a great number of voids. The resultant material is then secondarily heated at >= the softening point of the glass powder, to prepare glass foam.
