PURPOSE:To protect an engine from runaway due to opening of a throttle valve by providing means for producing an alarm upon detection that the displacement of an accelerator is zero and the throttle valve is not at the closed position in a remote controller for the throttle valve. CONSTITUTION:An accelerator zero position detector 105 and a throttle initial position detector 106 are provided in a remote controller for electrically detecting the displacement of an accelerator operator 101 and opening/closing a throttle valve 103 by means of a drive means such as a servo motor. The output signal from both detectors are inputed into an abnormality decision circuit 107. If no signal is inputed from said detector 106 within predetermined time after provision of a signal from said detector 105, the decision circuit 107 will decide to be occurrence of abnormal condition thus to produce an alarm.
