SEPARATION OF COBALT AND CHROMIUM

PURPOSE:To transfer selectively Co to a solvent and to separate easily the same with good accuracy by bringing an aq. soln. contg. Co and the ion of trivalent Cr into a solvent dissolved therein with an extracting agent having the atom groups CNOH and POOH. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. contg. Co and the ion of trivalent Cr is brought into contact with a solvent which is dissolved therein with an complexing extracting agent having the atom group CNOH and an acidic non-complexing oxidizing agent having the atom group POOH and which does not mix with water to transfer selectively Co into the solvent and to separate the same from the trivalent Cr ion in the aq. soln. A fraction of 7-13 carbon atom petroleum or a component of the fraction thereof such as xylene or the like is usable as the solvent which does not mix with water. The mixing ratio of the complexing extracting agent and the acidic non-complexing extracting agent to be used for the above-mentioned extracting agent is preferably 1:4-4:1 by weight.
