PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high yield, by adding 1,1'-azobis- (cyclohexane-1-carbonitrile) in a specific concentration to a reaction system in reacting a 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene catalytically with oxygen in the presence of an alkali. CONSTITUTION:A 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene (hereinafter abbreviated to TIP) or a homolog thereof is reacted catalytically with oxygen or a gas containing oxygen in the presence of an alkaline aqueous solution to give 1,3,5-triisopropylbenzene trihydroperoxide (hereinafter abbreviated to THPO). In the process, 1,1'-azobis- (cyclohexane-1-carbonitrile) (hereinafter abbreviated to AHCN) in an amount of 0.01-5mol% based on TIP of homolog thereof is added thereto. The addition of the AHCN in the above-mentioned range shortens the induction period in the oxidation reaction and further oxidation time. Furthermore, the yield of THPO is improved. |
