PURPOSE:To obtain monoiodobenzene and diiodobenzene useful as various kinds of intermediates efficiently, by reacting benzene with molecular iodine in a solvent except nitric acid and sulfuric acid in the presence of a metallic compound and oxygen. CONSTITUTION:Benzene is reacted with molecular iodine in an acid solvent in the presence of a metallic compound and oxygen at 70-200 deg.C, to give monoiodobenzene and diiodobenzene. The acid catalyst has preferably <=5pKa (an acid such as nitric acid and sulfuric acid apt to be reacted easily with benzene is omitted), and a strong acid such as especially trifluoromethanesulfonic acid, trifluoroacetic acid, etc. is preferable. A halide of a metal selected from Fe, Cu, V, Zr, Co, Pd, Cr, Ag, Sb, etc. is preferably as the metallic compound as a catalyst, and a combination of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and V2O5 has high reaction rate. |
