PURPOSE:To form surely a dial pattern of a thin type on a base plate subjected to painting by providing the 1st plating film of the dial pattern to expose the same from the paint coated film on the base plate and further forming the 2nd plating layer on the 1st plating layer. CONSTITUTION:A resist film 6 is coated on a base plate 1 consisting of a conductive material except the part to be formed with a pattern by electroplating. The substrate 1 is then electroplated to form the 1st plating layer 3. The film 6 is removed and a paint coated film 5 is formed over the entire surface region of the substrate 1. The film 5 is further polished and the layer 3 is also polished to expose the layer 3 from the film 5. A resist film 7 is further provided on the surface of the film 5 and the 2nd plating layer 4 is formed by electroplating on the layer 3 and thereafter the film 7 is removed and the dial pattern of a thin type is surely formed on the substrate 1.
