PURPOSE:To miniaturize the titled multimeter and to enhance the portability and operability thereof, in the multimeter for measuring resistance or voltage, by using a button shaped battery in a power source part while using a liquid crystal display element in a display part. CONSTITUTION:When a power source switch 8 is turned ON, a digital multimeter main body 1 using a button shaped dry battery 7 as a power source is brought to an operable state. In the next step, when it is set to a resistance measuring range by a range change-over switch 5 and a measuring probe 2 having an integral structure with the main body and a measuring probe 3 connected to a coupling jack 9 through a lead wire are brought into contact with an object to be measured, a resistance valve is displayed by a display part 6 using a liquid crystal display element. By this mechanism, a user can observe a measuring place and a measuring result without changing his eyes and measurement can be safely, rapidly and accurately performed even in an unstable place or in a place where the meter main body can not be placed.
