PURPOSE:To enhance the separation efficiency of filthy suspended particles in a precipitation tank, by a method wherein dividing plates are provided to the upper part of a precipitation tank so as to provide intervals therebetween and a plurality of partition plates are further provided between each pair of the dividing plates while a blocking plate having a gap part is provided to the tank bottom part. CONSTITUTION:Filthy water entering the filthy water introducing part 7 of a precipitation tank 1 is contacted with the flocculant injected from a flocculant injection pipe 8 and air introduced from an air diffusing pipe to be treated therewith. When thus treated filthy water passes the gap parts of dividing plates 2 and blocking plates 4 or passes the gap parts of the blocking plates 4, filthy suspended particles in filthy water are separated and floated while the floated dirty suspended particles are collected between the dividing plates 2 and partition plates 3 or in the gaps between the partition plates 3. The collected scum is scraped up in the scum pockets 10 provided at both sides of the precipitation tank 1 by the left and right motion of the scraper 6 provided at the upper part of the precipitation tank 1 and removed out of the tank. Treated water is discharged out of the tank from a discharge pipe 11.
