PURPOSE:To prevent the deformation of the titled filter cylinder and to make it possible to collect even fine particles, by mixing endless long fibers having rectangular profile cross-sectional areas and different thicknesses obtained by fibrillating a synthetic resin film. CONSTITUTION:An inflation film comprising polypropylene is electrically split according to a known method to form a fiber. This fiber may be formed by other known physical or chemical means. Thus the obtained fiber has endless long fibers having random profile cross-sectional areas such as rectangular cross-sectional areas and various thicknesses ranging from extremely fine fibers to extremely thick fibers mixed therein. A filter cylinder is formed from this fiber by a conventional known method. This filter material is high in friction resistance and has a large void ratio as compared with one using a round fiber and, therefore, can collect even fine particles from a fluid.
