The subject of the present invention is an adjustable headrest for a motor vehicle, which comprises a support cushion which can be moved translationally in a substantially vertical direction, in the median zone of a seat backrest, thereby constituting part of the surface of this backrest. According to the invention, its support cushion 1 is internally fitted with an elastic peripheral frame 6, open at its bottom part or at its top part and laterally flanged by a covering 5 enveloping the support cushion; the sides of this frame 6 comprise portions 8 passing through the covering 5, projecting with respect to it and able to be housed inside guiding uprights 3 arranged on either side of the headrest and securely fastened to the framework 2 of the backrest of the seat; the said frame 6 comprises means 10 for tightening or contracting it and thus moving its projections away from the bottom of the hollow uprights. <IMAGE>
