PURPOSE:To obtain a multi-element thin film magnetic head which can increase the track density of a magnetic tape by putting a part of each of adjacent conductor coils on the width direction of a magnetic tape via an insulated layer. CONSTITUTION:Each unit magnetic head is formed on a substrate 20 made of ceramics, ferrite, etc. A protecting film 22 is formed on the substrate 20 generally by a sputtering process, and a magnetic matter 24 is provided on the film 22 by a sputtering, vapor deposition or a plating process, etc. in an optional pattern. An insulated layer 28 is formed on the matter 24 via a gap 26, and a spiral conductor coil 30 is buried into the layer 28. The adjacent conductor coils 30 and 36 are buried with a partial overlap given in the width direction of the magnetic head via the layer 28. Therefore the coil 36 is set higher than the coil 30 to the substrate 20. |
