This is an addn. to 896346, which describes a cooling plant which can be moved towards or away from a moving metal profile, e.g. a girder, to maintain a distance (d) between the plant and the girder. The novelty in the present invention is that at least two of the elements forming the cooling plant are joined together so they can be moved simultaneously to vary distance (d). A pref. plant uses a threaded spindle for the simultaneous movement of two chassis. Each chassis carries a jack used to move a set of cooling boxes. The cooling liq. flowing through the boxes is pref. also used to drive the jacks. Improvements to the main patent which can be employed e.g. in the quenching of hot rolled H- or I-beams.
