PROCESS FOR PREPARING ALCOHOL

A process for manfacturing alcohols from cellulosic materials comprises (a) steam-treating the cellulosic materials at 400-600≰F under 250-1500 psi for 3-30 mins.; (b) destroying part of the internal structure of the cellulosic materials under a reduced pressure; (c) delignifying the destroyed cellulosic materials to hydrolyze them into fermentable sugars; (d) fermenting the fermentable sugars to give alcohols; and (e) distilling the produced condensed alcohols.
