A central belt buckle serves for closing belt ends together in a star-shaped manner. The central belt buckle has a holding plate (1) and a rotary handle (5) mounted in the holding plate. Distributed on the circumference of the central belt buckle are slots for the insertion of insert tabs (4), each connected to one end of the belt. Provided in the holding plate (1) are holding devices which are released by means of the rotary handle (5). The holding devices are designed as locking bolts (15) which are held in the locking position under the pressure of a spring (35). In the locking position, the locking bolts (15) engage into a lug (41) of one of the insert tabs (4) respectively. The rotary handle (5) has guide tracks (53) in the form of helical surfaces on its side confronting the locking bolts (15). Rolling bodies (54) bear on the guide tracks (53) and, on the other hand, bear against an axially displaceable thrust plate (55), on which the locking bolts (15) are supported. The rolling bodies (54) are guided in a stationary intermediate plate (6). <IMAGE>
