The invention relates to a chimney cowl with a shaft-like or tubular cap (1), which can be attached to the edge of a chimney, and a cover (6) situated above it, at least one side opening (9) being provided on the chimney cap (1) for discharge of the flue gases. To improve the discharge of the flue gases, a downward-extending elevation is provided on the underside of the cover and, as a flue gas deflector, diverts the flue gases flowing upwards out of the shaft to the side openings (9). <IMAGE>
