In a magnetic roller 1 for copiers, there are arranged on a support member 2, which is shaped like a ring or roller and made from magnetically non-conductive material, strip-shaped permanent magnet pairs 3 which have a segment-shaped cross-section. Each permanent magnet is magnetised in the direction of its smallest thickness in such a way that like poles (N, N, S, S) are alternately juxtaposed on the adjacent faces 3a of the permanent magnet pairs and form on their circumferential faces 9 main poles which change their polarity from magnet pair to magnet pair in the circumferential direction. The direction of magnetisation is marked by the arrows 7. The main poles are likewise marked on the roller circumference by the letters N and S. The permanent magnet pairs can be mounted on the support member by means of ribs 4 which extend in the radial direction and have anchoring parts 5 on their ends. <IMAGE>
