PURPOSE:To enable to easily conduct a test printing operation even in the absence of a paper, by a method wherein a printer having the function of inhibiting a printing operation in response to a paper absence detection signal and controlled by an external controller is provided with a means for momentarily stopping the function. CONSTITUTION:In a printer 5 which has a paper-empty function for inhibiting the printing operation when a paper absence signal is inputted from a paper presence/absence detector 28 into a CPU 11 through an I/O port 21 and is controlled by the external controller 6 in printing, a switch for selectively enabling or disenabling the paper-empty function in response to a signal from the external controller 6 is provided in the CPU 11. When conducting a test operation of a hammer provided in a printing head, a signal is fed from the external controller 6 to disenable the paper-empty function. |
