The knife holding device for folding machines comprises a light but rigid diecast part (2) to which the knife bolt is attached. The diecast part (2) rests with a cylindrical section (15) of its inside surface on an identically formed cylindrical section (14) of the outside surface of a profiled strip (10) which has an elongate recess (16) extending from the cylindrical section (14) of the outside surface (14) and tapering towards the base of lateral guide strips (12). The profiled strip (10) then continues to the guide strips (12) in a narrow extension (11) which supports the knife (20), it being possible to combine the knife (20) and the profiled strip (10) into a single piece. Two regulating screws are sufficient to set and fix the knife position in this device. In addition, the mass is kept as low as possible, while maintaining adequate rigidity. <IMAGE>
