The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for mechanically producing wall elements from building stone, by arranging rows of stones, formed by individual building stones joined to one another at their end faces and joined to one another by means of a cementing material, in layers one on top of the other, a minimum join overlap taking place between the individual stones of each row of stones of the wall element and the rows of stones to be arranged in layers one on top of the other being taken from at least one work support, on which the building stones are formed into rows and joined, for example adhesively bonded, to one another at their end faces and cut to the required stone-row length, the row of stones, which has in its required length at least one part-stone, being cut to the required length in the end region of the produced work support - seen in the conveying direction of the work support during its production - following the joining of the individual stones at their end faces.
