Floatable oil barrier for the localization of oil layers or the like on stretches of water, consisting of a multiplicity of floating bodies, an apron reaching into deeper water layers and having ballast parts, and connecting parts between the floating bodies of the apron and the ballast parts. In order to obtain an oil barrier which cannot overturn and below which oil cannot flow, the floating bodies (4) are arranged at a distance from and essentially on either side symmetrically to the plane through the centre of gravity of the arrangement of floating bodies (4), apron (1, 10) and ballast parts (6). <IMAGE>
