PURPOSE:To eliminate inappropriate shift-up instruction and to make it possible to shift up in accordance with an instruction from an indicating device by sensing an engine speed and load so that when in a shift-up range a shift-up instruction may be given, and when such time is less than a predetermined time, the shift-up instruction may be terminated. CONSTITUTION:A TP signal of the fuel injection pulse width is inputted to an input interface circuit 18, and the engine load is small in an operating range of a narrow pulse TP, while the load is large when such is wide. If a shift position has been determined and a condition where the engine load is large has been continuing over a predetermined time, an acceleration flag is set. If a deceleration is temporarily made in a range of shift-up, a shift-up flag is reset. Thereafter, a judgement is made whether the gear ratio is smallest like in the 5th speed, whether the throttle valve is fully closed, whether the coolant temperature is less than a predetermined value, and whether the vehicle speed is less than a predetermined value etc., and a shift-up instruction is outputted. |
