PURPOSE:A resin composition for coating steel plates that is composed of a specific butyl-etherified melamine resin and another resin which is curable by reaction with the melamin resin, thus giving coating films of high flexibility and solvent resistance. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition is obtained by combining (A) a butyl- etherified melamine resin containing less than 10wt% of the fraction containing 1 or 2 melamine nuclei in the molecule with (B) a resin which is curable by reacting with the butyl-etherified melamine resin such as an alkyd resin, e.g., at a weight ratio of 5/95-50/50.
