The present invention relates to a packet mode data receiver and a transmitter for transmission at high information throughput. It consists in constructing a transmitter comprising a coder (100) and a pulse generator (101) in order to transmit a signal consisting of packets separated by silences during which are transmitted pulses generated at a given rate defining the throughput of the information transmission; and a receiver comprising a signal detecting circuit (103) making it possible to distinguish these pulses and to account for these pulses with the aid of an internal clock, a sampling circuit making it possible to sample (104) the packets detected with the aid of appropriate clock signals, a selection and storage circuit (105) making it possible to select the clock signal best suited to the processing.
