PURPOSE:To obtain a cycloolefin, in high yield and selectivity, by the partial hydrogenation of a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon using a ruthenium catalyst supported on a carrier comprising a compound containing at least one kind of rate earth element. CONSTITUTION:A cycloolefin is produced by the partial hydrogenation of a monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (e.g. benzene, tuluene, xylene, ethylbenzene, etc.) in the presence of a catalyst comprising ruthenium supported on a carrier. In the above process, a compound containing one or more rare earth elements, i.e. a compound containing one or more elements selected from Sc, Y, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Pm, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, Lu, etc. (preferably a compound containing La) is used as the carrier. The reaction is preferably carried out in the presence of an alkaline aqueous solution. EFFECT:The life of the catalyst can be improved remarkably, and the catalyst can be used repeatedly for a long period. |
