PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a polymerization initiator, easily in high yield, without necessitating hardly synthesizable and expensive silver hyponitrite, by oxidizing a di-tert-butoxysulfamide with a halogen-containing oxidizing agent. CONSTITUTION:The objective di-tert-butyl hyponitrite is prepared by reacting (A) a di-tert-butylsulfamide with (B) a halogen-containing oxidizing agent (e.g. halogen, sodium hypochlorite, isopropyl hypobromite, etc.) in a solvent such as water, alcohol, hydrocarbon, etc., preferably in the presence of an alkali to stabilize the action of the oxidizing agent, at -20-+30 deg.C, preferably -10-+15 deg.C for 1-2hr.
