<p>PURPOSE:To realize stable complete combustion, make a device compact, and at the same time prevent the service lives of catalysts from lowering due to the lowering of activities by a structure wherein two kinds of catalysts are used in two layers. CONSTITUTION:The residual fuel gas discharged from fuel cells and residual air are mixed with each other and then introduced in a first catalyst layer 10, in which the hydrogen and carbon monoxide contained in the residual fuel gas are burnt oxidizingly so that the heat of combustion raises the temperature of the mixed gas up to a level, at which the combustion rate of methane is enough high. The methane is contained in the mixed gas discharged from the first catalyst layer 10. The mixed gas is further introduced in a second catalyst layer 11. Catalyst, which effectively burns methane oxidizingly and yet is highly refractory, is packed in the second catalyst layer 11. Because the mixed gas is heated up to enough high temperature, the oxidation reaction of methane can be proceeded quickly.</p> |
