PURPOSE:To perform skew correcting control properly with simple constitution by detecting the amplitude of a traverse tracking error signal to form a signal responding properly to skew. CONSTITUTION:When an optical system 11 is moved in response to a command from a track jump circuit 19 and track searching to a disc 1 is performed, a tracking error signal St outputted from a signal processing section 12 becomes the traverse tracking error signal and is inputted to a peak level detecting circuit 21. This circuit 23 detects the amplitude of the signal St changed properly in response to the skew, the result is held by a peak holding circuit 22 and compared with a peak holding value just before a delay circuit 25. Then, the optical axis of the optical system 11 is controlled via a skew control signal generating circuit 26 in a prescribed direction so as to maximize the amplitude of the signal St, thereby performing properly the skew correcting control properly with simple constitution. |
