PURPOSE:To prevent a rise in room temperature upon restarting and to allow an efficient operation with a high dehumidifying efficiency by rapidly increasing the rotational speed of a compressor upon restarting and slowing down the compressor speed after cooling an evaporator. CONSTITUTION:The rotational speed of a compressor is made slower than the normal cooling mode,and a room unit fan is also operated at a slower speed. Then, the room temperature is reduced eventually to a temperature set by a temperature controller when the intermittent operation mode is assumed. At this time, a high speed operation is carried out upon starting during which a room unit fan is stopped. After an evaporator is fully cooled down, the compressor speed is lowered and the room unit fan is operated. Since the compressor operates at a high speed upon starting up, the evaporator is rapidly cooled, and by operating the room unit fan thereafter, the revaporation of water on the surface of the evaporator can be prevented.
