PURPOSE:To eliminate the formation of carbon in the apparatus in a methanol refroming apparatus for maunfacturing a gas contg. hydrogen from methanol or a mixture of methanol and water by using common steel and stainless steel, of which surface is coated previously with titanium oxide, as the construction material of the apparatus. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst is packed in a reactor tube 2, and methanol or a mixture of methanol and water is supplied into a catalyst bed 1 from a passage 4. A heating medium or a gas is supplied from an inlet 6, passing through the inside of a shell 3, and discharged from an outlet 7. The methanol or the mixture of methanol and water is reformed into a gas contg. >=0.1% hydrogen, which is discharged from an outlet 5. The reactor tube 2 and a tube plate 3 of the apparatus is manufactured of common steel and stainless steel of whcih surface is coated previously with titanium oxide.
