PURPOSE:To reduce the fatigue and elongation of type body groups by shifting a first type body group according to a shift cycle only when a type section in a second type group is selected in a serial printer. CONSTITUTION:When a numeral 3 is printed by an upperside type belt 3a and the numeral 3 is also printed by the next digit, a type belt 3 is opposed to a hammer 19 carried previously only by one digit section at that time, the time for secting types is shortened and the numeral 3 can be printed by a type belt 3b when both type belts 3a, 3b are moved slightly and the type belt 3 is shifted and operated. According to the shift operation, a second electromagnetic solenoid 42 is excited by a command from a control section, a shift cam surface 45 in a shift gear 43 is turned and a pin 52 is pushed up by a cam surface 45a, and both type belts 3a, 3b are shifted through a shift lever 51 and a holding member 56. Consequently, the time for selecting types can be shortened, and the fatigue and elongation of the type belts are reduced, and the life can be lengthened. |
