PURPOSE:To eliminate the formation of carbon in the apparatus in a methanol reforming apparatus for manufacturing a gas contg. hydrogen from methanol or a mixture of methanol and water by using an alloy consisting essentially of Cu and Ni or Cu, Ni and Zn as the construction material of the apparatus. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst is packed in a reactor tube 2, and methanol or a mixture of methanol and water is supplied into a catalyst bed 1 from a passage 4. A heating medium or a gas is supplied from an inlet 6, passing through the inside of a shell 3, and discharged from an outlet 7. The methanol or the mixture of methanol and water is reformed into a gas contg. >=0.1% hydrogen, which is discharged from an outlet 5. The reactor tube 2 and a tube plate 8 of the apparatus are manufactured of an alloy consisting essentially of Cu and Ni such as cupronickel, or an alloy consisting essentially of Cu, Ni and Zn such as German silver.
