PURPOSE:To prevent a ribbon from being wastefully consumed at the time of blank printing, by a method wherein a rotating force of a motor on the ribbon- supplying side can be transmitted to the taking-up side by a clutch, in a printer provided with an ink ribbon feeding mechanism at a fixed part of the printer. CONSTITUTION:While a printing head 1 is pressed against a platen and is moved in the direction of an arrow (a), an electric current is passed to a solenoid, so that a lever 16 is pushed in the direction of an arrow (c) against the force of a return spring 18, the clutch 14 is disconnected by a brake pad part 16a, therefore the rotation of a pulley 11 is not transmitted to a ribbon-feeding roller 4, and the ribbon 2 remains in a stopped condition. When a blank part is present in a printing pattern, passage of the electric current to the solenoid 17 is stopped, so that the printing head 1 is lifted up, and the pad part 16a is separated from the clutch 14. Therefore, the ribbon-feeding roller 4 is rotated concurrently with the rotation of a motor 12, and the ribbon 2 is rewound. At the time of returning the head 1, an amount of the ribbon 2 consumed during printing in the line is taken up. |
