PURPOSE:To enhance sensitivity, to control fogging, and to improve storage stability by using a monodispersed silver halide emulsion sensitized with Se and spectrally sensitized with a specified cyanine dye. CONSTITUTION:An emulsion contg. a monodispersed silver halide sensitized with Se is used and it is also spectrally sensitized with a cyanine dye represented by the fomula shown here in which Z1, Z2 are each an atomic group necessary to complete a thiazole, benzothiazole, naphthothiazole, oxazole, benzoxazole, or naphthoxazole ring; R1, R2 are each alkyl optionally substd. by OH, COOH, or SO2; X1<-> is an anion; (n) is 1 or 2, and when said dye forms an intramolecular salt, (n) is 1. The silver halide grains contained in this monodispersed emulsion are composed essentially of tetradecahedron and/or octahedron grains, and this emulsion is sensitized with gold and Se. The variation coefft. of grain diameter distribution of these monodispersed silver halide grains is controlled to about 0.15. The silver halide emulsion thus obtained is especially suitable for color photography, and since it is high in sensitivity and low in fog, it is preferably usable for many photosensitive materials. It is also good in storage stability. |
