PURPOSE:To obtain a head with simple manufacturing and high accuracy by providing a gap for recording and reproduction and a couple of gaps for erasing. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 30 consists of a head core 31 for recording and reproduction and a head core 32 for erasing bonded in series threrewith. Opposed parts of each core half are projected in nonmagnetic protecting members 33, 33' of each head core and metallic bodies 34, 34' and 35, 35' having a high saturation magnetic flux density are coated to both side faces so as to attain the composition of nearly zero magnetostriction. The butted part among the metallic magnetic bodies 34, 34' and 35, 35' is polished for forming a track part and an operating gap and a required track width l1 is obtained. The nonmagnetic protecting members 33, 33' of the head core 32 are polished until the members are exposed after magnetic substance film is coated, and the width l2 of exposure corresponds to the recording track width, and the relation of l1>=l2 is obtained. A couple of the head cores for erase are separated by this polishing and a required recording track width is left by erasing both ridges of the track width recorded in the width of l1. The widths l3 and l4 of the head core for erase correspond to the thickness of the magnetic substance film.
